NetMon 3

While on an early-morning conference call (gotta love those 1-4AM maintenance windows!), I was able to catch-up on my blog reading - to the tune of about 400 posts. Anyway, I saw this nugget from Bink.nu:

Microsoft opens Network Monitor 3 beta 2 to public

PDF Support in Office 2007

2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS

(This is just more of a placeholder for my own purposes - I hate reposting things that are on a million other blogs....)

But I do have to say: it's great that Microsoft is giving the option for free, basic PDF support in Office, although it's too bad they can't provide free, basic PDF support built-in to the OS like at least one other company is able to do. Let's hope that there is a good legal reason for it, and not just a) licensing costs, or b) Microsoft's stubborness to not go with an industry standard instead of their own proprietary format.

Disorganized Racks

If you have a network rack that looks like this:

Why would you proudly show it to potential customers?

The above image is actually nicer than one I saw yesterday. A group of us visited a site with whom we may do business, and they showed us the "LAN room" which was secured only by a key (weak authentication, no authorization, no auditing), had no environmental controls, was also filled with eletrical conduit, had other customer devices (lots of Linksys) some of which were literally hanging by a thread, and such a rats nest of cables it would take hours to figure out what's what. And they expect us to add our equipment into a space like this? Yeesh....
